San Antonio, Texas – September 13th, 2025

The UTSA Roadrunners hosted the UIW Cardinals at the Alamodome. The game took place in San Antonio on Saturday, September 13, 2025. They came away with a convincing 48-20 victory. Attendance was reported as 20,421

Standout Performers & Key Stats

UTSA’s offense moved with precision. Quarterback Owen McCown was nearly flawless, completing 29 of 35 passes for 238 yards and four touchdowns

Running back Robert Henry Jr. again lived up to the hype. He rushed 14 times for 144 yards and two touchdowns. His performance included a massive 74-yard dash in the second half.

On the receiving end, AJ Wilson caught four passes for 99 yards and a score. For UIW, backup quarterback EJ Colson, entered in the second half and showed promise. He achieved 17-of-24 passing for 213 yards and three touchdowns. Cardinals receiver Chedon James caught 8 passes for 134 yards and three touchdowns

Defensively, UTSA forced four turnovers (two fumbles lost and one interception among them) while not turning it over themselves.  UIW’s offense was held to just 90 yards in the first half, a sign of UTSA’s dominance early.

Defining Plays & Turning Points

Two moments stood out as turning points:

  • Early in the second half, UTSA unleashed Henry on a 74-yard touchdown run. This run essentially broke the game open. It put UIW well out of rhythm.
  • Another killer blow came when McCown connected with AJ Wilson for a 77-yard touchdown pass. That explosive play came soon after UIW began to show signs of life, and it smothered the Cardinals’ momentum.

UIW had some bright spots, particularly in the second half. However, the early deficit made a comeback unrealistic. A turnover margin of minus-three also contributed to the challenge.

What This Result Means Moving Forward

For UTSA, this win is crucial. After starting the season 0-2, including a tight loss in the I-35 rivalry, they showed they can dominate weaker competition. They tightened up defensively and avoided mistakes. It’s a confidence boost heading into tougher nonconference and conference games.

For UIW, despite the loss, there are some positives. The performances from EJ Colson and Chedon James show they have playmakers. They can move the ball when adjustments are made. But turnovers, slow starts, and inability to sustain pressure over an entire game remain areas they must address.

Final Thoughts & Call to Action

This game reasserts that UTSA is capable of putting everything together—power running, sharp passing, opportunistic defense—when the opponent allows. It’s a statement win. For UIW, it was a tough outing but also a learning opportunity.
