A group of thirsty horsemen arrived from South Bend to represent a battle between two top 25 teams. #7 Notre Dame faces #20 Texas A & M. Tonight 8.2 million people are watching the kickoff. The excitement is gigantic before the duel of two hungry teams. In Texas everything is bigger, even the noise. White pom poms everywhere in an electrifying atmosphere. Both defenses establish their rules immediately, the Irish defense is on a mission. We miss our friend Gabriel Rubio (97), but here are the two relentless steeds that have stood firm, neighing with courage. Rylie Mills (99) and Howard Cross III (56).
The Aggies show power by executing a pair of plays with pieces that evolve into a strategic duel. How and where are they going to direct the bullets? The QBs are throwing but no one can find the end zone. The Aggies kicked a 49-yard field goal, taking a 6-3 lead. Notre Dame running backs are breathing hard trying to find non-existent gaps. The lanes are closed and the ball carriers are trying to flee a stampede of maroon jerseys attacking in all directions. There is no place to run and no place to hide. There is DT Shemar Turner and LB Taurean York closing in and breathing down the neck of QB Leonard Riley. The 12th man calls for Irish blood in Texas.
It’s rough terrain and Texas A&M QB, Conner Weigman (15), is intercepted by Xavier Watts (0). The teams went into halftime tied 6-6. In the 3rd quarter the explosiveness of the offensive line finally gets the golden ground attack going, running with precision and courage. The loud stadium couldn’t be more intimidating with all the white towels, 107,000 souls screaming and clamoring for dominance against the Irish. Jadarian Price runs behind the big block of the proud linemen and outpaces the Aggies secondary for a 47-yard touchdown run. For Irish linemen Aamil Wagner, Sam Pendleton and Anthonie Knapp it was their first time opening a game.
Texas A&M tied the game with a one-yard touchdown run. The Irish prayed before this game, visualized playing with pure intensity. The Aggies started strong but for the Irish it’s better to finish strong. Notre Dame WR Beaux Collins executed an impressive 20-yard reception to keep the game-clinching drive alive. After the two-minute break, Jeremiyah Love burst down the right side of the line for a 21-yard touchdown run. The Irish added the final 3 points on a 46-yard field goal by Jeter. Not even thirteen men in Aggies uniforms would have survived the heart and courage of eleven horsemen who fought like an army of golden warriors on their mission to conquer Texas tonight in a memorable battle.
Looking ahead to the upcoming games:
– Notre Dame will host Northern Illinois on Saturday, September 7th, 2024, and is poised for another triumphant performance.
– Texas A&M will host McNeese State on the same day. It will be intriguing to witness the team’s growth and application of lessons learned, aiming for victory against the McNeese State Cowboys.
