Two blowout wins at Kyle Field and a spot in the national Top 10 had Aggie fans dreaming big. Today, Texas A&M sits at 3-3 with just one SEC win, and the season is getting harder.

The setup

Mike Elko’s Aggies, now in his third year, opened strong: 50-0 over Missouri State and 48-20 over Arizona State, with the defense scoring twice on interception returns in the fourth quarter. With that start, they welcomed Kentucky for the SEC opener.

A home setback and a rough night in Baton Rouge

Kentucky won 31-21 at Kyle Field in front of 105,186 fans, on the strength of a third quarter that built a 28-7 lead. Quarterback Marcel Reed threw for 236 yards and ran for 80, and receiver Mario Craver set a career high with 11 catches for 119 yards. A week later, LSU beat them 35-6 in Baton Rouge: Reed managed only 106 passing yards, and A&M’s only points were two David Olano field goals.

The answer against Arkansas

On October 3, A&M responded with a 34-7 win over Arkansas for its first conference victory. Dalton Brooks opened with a 39-yard interception return, KJ Edwards carried the ground game with two touchdowns, and Reed added another on the ground plus a 54-yard connection with Kiotti Armstrong. The Aggies out-gained Arkansas 401 yards to 214.

Another stumble in Columbia

This Saturday, though, the offense went quiet. No. 14 Missouri won 27-6 at Faurot Field, led by Jamal Roberts, who rushed for 222 yards and two touchdowns. A&M finished with just 146 total yards, and Olano, perfect on two attempts (53 and 27 yards), accounted for all six of the team’s points. On the bright side, linebacker Daymion Sanford intercepted a pass on Missouri’s opening drive, and Jordan Shaw added 8 tackles.

Looking ahead

Texas A&M hosts The Citadel on October 17 at Kyle Field. After that come Alabama, South Carolina, Tennessee, and Oklahoma, and the season closes on Friday, November 27, at Kyle Field, with Texas visiting for the Lone Star Showdown at 6:30 p.m. on ABC. It’s the most-played opponent for both schools, and we’ll be there to tell the story.

From TexasFootball en Español, we wish Texas A&M a quick return to the winning path. Their fans deserve it, and college football isn’t the same without the Aggies fighting for a playoff spot.
