UTSA 38, Navy 34 — Week 7, 2026 Season

Before the opening kickoff, the Alamodome experienced a moment no scoreboard can overshadow. During a pregame rappelling demonstration, part of UTSA’s celebration of the armed forces and veterans, an Air Force airman fell from the stadium rafters. He was treated on the field and taken to a hospital, where he died, according to Nellis Air Force Base. The Air Force has not released his name. From TexasFootball en Español, we send our condolences to his family, friends, and fellow service members.

The setup

The band played the national anthem in a somber tone, there was no pyrotechnics or the usual team introductions, and a moment of silence was held. Head coach Jeff Traylor said he had never had to deal with something like that, and quarterback Owen McCown said it was “bigger than football.” In that atmosphere, UTSA (5-1) hosted Navy (2-3) for the first time in school history.

What decided the game

The Roadrunners fell behind 14-0 on two rushing touchdowns by Navy quarterback Jackson Gutierrez. But UTSA’s offense answered with 21 straight points before the break, on touchdown passes from McCown to Mekhi Anderson and Brandon Young Jr., plus a 1-yard run by A’Marion Peterson. Navy closed the half to make it 21-20.

The fourth quarter was wild: the lead changed hands four times. Gutierrez hit tight end Jordan Collins on a 92-yard touchdown pass (a school record) to put Navy up 27-24. Will Henderson III answered with a 31-yard run, Braxton Woodson gave Navy the lead back with a 7-yard run, and McCown led a 75-yard drive that ended with a 41-yard screen pass to Peterson with 2:45 to play. Navy couldn’t recover on its last attempt.
